Our Story

Downs River Restaurant Inc. (“Downs”) has been a family own restaurant since 2005. 

Dusty (“Pop’s) and his wife were born and raised in the island of Jamaica. They came to New York from Jamaica during the 1980’s for a better opportunity. At the time, they were always looking for an authentic Jamaican restaurant that would remind them of home. They had no luck finding such a restaurant in New York. That is when the idea came to establish an authentic Jamaican restaurant. The inspiration of the name of Downs came from Pop’s wife. Pop’s enjoyed heading to Dunn’s River Fall with his wife while visiting Jamaica. That is when the name of Downs was born. 

Today, Downs is located at the heart of the Caribbean community in Brooklyn, New York. Downs offers authentic hearty Jamaican food which includes a variety of dishes such as oxtail, rice and peas, curry goat, curry chicken, beef patty, natural juice, and much more. Downs also offers catering for customers wishing to have Jamaican food in the comfort of their own home.

Come to Downs! To enjoy some of the best Jamaican food prepared by chef Warren G and Pops. We are open 7 days per week for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
